This was one day in April 2006. I think the peak is called Pointe de Vorlaz. It's just above Avoriaz, slightly towards the Swiss border. It was a fine April pow day, and for most of us, our first time in Portes du Soleil. The obvious in bounds stuff got trashed almost as quickly as Chamonix, but stuff even just a little bit out of the way stayed fresh all day so we were absolutely loving it. This was one of those rare cases where the photo matched the mood completely. I reached the summit a bit ahead of the group and started drolling over the massive nearly untouched bowl of sparkling powder on the other side. But when I turned around I saw the photo-op of the day - the Dents du Midi over a thick cloud inversion, and my ski buddies just cresting the summit ridge. There was barely time to snap pictures, because they were moving fast and not too far behind. The mood was pretty euphoric at this point, as after a short breather at the summit we proceeded to nearly straight line the entire bowl - the whole Chamonix 2006 Crew ripping giant warp speed turns and then meeting up at the bottom, with grins ear to ear and hungry for more.
